EPL: Fears over FIFA’s plan to reduce teams to 18

There are concerns that FIFA intends to impose 18-team leagues across the globe, including the Premier League.


The UK Sun reports that this is related to the Club World Cup's expansion.

The world football governing body has already confirmed intentions to host a 32-team event in the United States next summer.

Teams including Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Chelsea are all expected to compete.

However, clubs throughout Europe's top divisions are deeply concerned about the impact this would have on players.


They are concerned that FIFA may attempt to address this issue by decreasing the number of clubs in each division to 18, requiring each club to play 34 games rather than 38.
