‘I felt like a stranger to myself’ – Simi on battle with imposter syndrome
Nigerian singer Simisola Kosoko, also known as Simi, has spoken out about her battles with imposter syndrome.
The mother of one said she had always valued the opportunity to know herself "deeply," but in recent years, she had felt the "discomfort of losing" herself.
She said she felt like a stranger to herself."
The singer stated that creating her new album 'Lost And Found' helped her rediscover herself.
Simi said on her X handle on Tuesday: "For the majority of my life, I have had the opportunity of knowing myself intimately, unwaveringly, and truly. In recent years, I've also felt the anguish of losing myself. Sometimes to make room for something else that I needed to be, and sometimes because I couldn't seem to find my path. I felt odd to myself. This version of myself has been the most difficult to look at in the mirror.
"Creating this record is a sign of regaining bits of myself that I believed I hadn't lost forever. I don't believe we'll ever stop discovering ourselves. If you're willing to look, there's always more. This is a dedication to the things we keep finding and rediscovering."
She also stated that the album is about her rediscovering her "chemistry with music, melody, and love stories."
