President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Musa Kida has disclosed the secret behind D’Tigress remarkable outing at the 2024 Olympic Games.
The African champions made it to the quarter-final of the women’s basketball event.
D'Tigress upset heavyweights Australia and Canada in the group stage, becoming the first African team to advance beyond the first round in Olympic history.
They did, however, lose to defending champions the United States of America in the quarterfinals.
Kida stated that preventing NBBF board members from putting players on D'Tigress head coach Rena Wakama had a significant part in the team's success.
"The responsibility is that we attempted to keep other board members from interfering.
"Board members can suggest, they can bring in names just like anybody else but the ultimate selection of the team is in the hands of the coach and the technical crew," Kida told NTA during an interview.
