Tinubu celebrates Rena Wakama's victory as 'Best Coach' at the 2024 Olympics.
President Bola Tinubu congratulated Rena Wakama on becoming the top coach in the women's basketball event at the 2024 Olympic Games.
Wakama, the D'Tigress head coach, guided the Nigerian team to an unprecedented quarterfinal appearance at the Games before falling to the United States.
D'Tigress created history by being the first African team to reach the Olympic quarterfinals.
In a statement issued on Monday, the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, stated, "The recognition of Ms. Wakama, 32, by the International Basketball Federation, FIBA, further accents her well-established leadership qualities and dedication to excellence.
"The President also commends the team and all those who contributed to the remarkable feat at the Olympics, encouraging them not to give up or grow discouraged, but to remain resilient and determined to achieve greatness.
"The President further thanks the Nigerian contingent and wished them success in their respective endeavours."
