Lilian Afegbai Calls Out Friend for Selling Wedding Aso Ebi in Dollars: "Is It My 'I Do'?"

Nigerian actress Lilian Afegbai has expressed shock after discovering that a friend priced her wedding aso ebi fabric in dollars instead of Naira.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the actress narrated how she excitedly received a wedding invitation, only to be stunned when she checked the price of the aso ebi and saw $1,200 (approximately ₦1.9 million at the current exchange rate).

"Una don dey sell aso ebi in dollars for Lagos? You people now sell for your own wedding in dollars? You guys are doing too much," Afegbai lamented.

At first, she assumed the price was in Naira and even thought it was a giveaway. But upon checking the link, she realized it was in dollars.

"1200 times 1600? How many millions is that? For your wedding? Is it my 'I Do'?" she added, questioning the extreme costs attached to Nigerian weddings.

Opinion: Are Nigerian Weddings Becoming Too Extravagant?

Afegbai’s frustration highlights a growing trend—the excessive cost of weddings in Nigeria. From luxurious bridal showers to over-the-top decorations, weddings have become more of a status symbol than a celebration of love.

For many, wedding aso ebi is already a financial burden. But when brides begin pricing fabrics in dollars, it raises serious concerns about affordability and priorities.

Should weddings be about love and family or about making guests break the bank? What do you think? Let’s discuss!
